Alexander Gasparov began studying piano at the age of 5 in his native Moscow. At 21, he entered N. Sidelnikov’s composition class at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he also studied piano with D. Sakharov and chamber music with M. Milmann. In 1987, he won the highest awards in all three disciplines.

Winner of the USSR Composition Competition on several occasions, Alexandre Gasparov moved to Paris in 1990, where he pursued both his creative work and his career as a pianist. He is regularly invited to take part in festivals (Flâneries musicales de Reims, Festival des Forêts, Festival de Radio-France à Montpellier, etc.) and radio and television broadcasts. He plays with Xavier Phillips, Henri Demarquette, Renaud Capuçon, Florent Héau, Wendy Warner, Albert Markov, the ensembles Musique oblique, Accroche-Note…

His catalog of works includes numerous pieces for both small ensembles and symphony orchestras, as well as melodies and musical tales for children. Among the latter, Modeste le petit pion is often performed in France and abroad.

His music is regularly performed by artists such as the Trio Wanderer, the Quatuor Elysée, Juliette Hurel, Laurent Korcia, Alexandre Kniazev, Olivier Charlier, Valerie Aimard, Benoît Fromanger, Christophe Beau, Nathanaëlle Marie, as well as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, the Orchestre lyrique de Région Avignon Provence, the Orchestre Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Orchestre de Bretagne, the Orchestre National de Malte…

His residency at the Abbaye de la Prée (2000-2002) enabled him not only to carry out some important compositional work, but also to rub shoulders with many remarkable artists, such as engraver François Cayol, painter Etienne Yver and composer Olivier Greif. One of Greif’s masterpieces, L’Office des naufragés, was recorded by the Accroche-Note ensemble with Alexandre Gasparov at the piano (Triton label).

From 2000 to 2006, together with cellist Henri Demarquette, he co-directed the Musikalia Festival and Association, which, in collaboration with the French Ministry of Education, organizes concert workshops for children in Paris, as well as concerts for a wider audience of music lovers.

Various festivals and orchestras regularly commission and broadcast his music.

The recording of Alexander Gasparov’s chamber music by Xavier Phillips, David Grimal and the composer himself, published by Triton, was warmly welcomed by the press.
