Depuis l’Aube … was commissioned by the Orchestre d’Harmonie de la région Centre for its new season, and is the cornerstone of the call for participatory projects for the region’s orchestras.
What could be more obvious than a suite of dances to regenerate the desire to meet, to  ravel, to surpass oneself and to share once again our common passion: music?
The idea for the argument quickly emerged, evoking the notion of a relationship with time, which the current crisis is necessarily making us rediscover. So I imagined a series of tableaux depicting the course of a day. Depuis l’Aube … takes us on a journey from the elation of first light to the frenzy of dusk, with music that highlights the rhythmic vitality of these dances. Like William Hogarth’s Four Times of the Day, Morning, Noon, Evening and Night, Depuis l’Aube does not describe the life of a single individual, but rather offers a vision of city life. The work alternates between four successive dances:

The dawning day is first evoked in an andante, which is quickly extended by a spirited vivace whose theme, based on a forlane, seems resolutely mischievous.

The serenity of the moment of sharing, that of mid-day, is offered in the form of a slow, passionate habanera.

The evening is a moment of energetic passion, a nuevo tango furioso.
Finally, the nocturnal fervor is presented with a trance based on the tâla Rupak from the traditions of Hindustani music, whose flame exults until the end of the night.
The development of the piece proposes an allegorical reading of the cycles of life, and invites us to question our relationship with time and our insatiable need to share.
