Huàn – 幻

Huàn – 幻 is a work inspired by both Nature and Chinese culture.
As a source of inspiration from Nature, I retained the principle of Parhelia. Parhelia is an atmospheric optical phenomenon during which sunlight is reflected in ice crystals present in the atmosphere, which act as a kind of mirror. One then discovers not one sun, but three (or sometimes more) on either side of the Sun, and near its halo.
I retained several elements of this phenomenon that I transcribed into music: the notion of circularity, through the spherical aspect of the stars, the principle of the mirror, luminous sound colors, sometimes translucent and the immobility of the landscape and the cold.
The Chinese translation of Parhelia is Huànrì – 幻日. I tried to encode these ideograms in music, using them in particular
to formally construct the piece. I also used the different strokes of the ideograms as melodic and harmonic support.
