Golem is inspired by the mutations of a ductile material like clay: in the piece, physical and sonic materials become one as the soloist shapes his own material. The ensemble provides diverse impulses, moving through numerous textures, helping the listener to adjust his or her perception through varied rhythmic content.
The tempi indicated are a maximum, and the rhythmic indications during the cadences should be taken as a benchmark. The premiere of the piece was given by Louis Siracusa and the Musica Nigella ensemble, directed by Takenori Nemoto, at the Musica Nigella Festival, Neuville-sur-Montreuil, on June 03, 2017.
The premiere of the revised version of the piece was given by Kathryn Schulmeister and Klangforum Wien, conducted by Bax Wiegers, at Festival ECLAT, Stuttgart, on February 06, 2019.
Golem was written in September 2016 and March 2017 in Poitiers, France. The revised version was written between August and October 2018 in Poitiers and Paris, France.
