Osmosis is an orchestral introduction that draws inspiration from the osmosis that can occur between Humankind and Nature, through certain extraordinary landscapes. This reflection is based on two photographs: one from northern China, and the other from Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Both images depict landscapes where human constructions seem to merge with Nature, forming a single, unified whole. Yet, the terms “Humankind” and “Nature”are often presented as opposites, especially in our current era, where environmental protection is a recurring topic. The choice of two completely different locations—both aesthetically and politically—is deliberate. Behind this choice lies the intention to transcend these boundaries and tap into the childlike sensitivity of humanity. The title, translated into English—the international language—reflects this universal dimension.
Musically, the work can be described as a “double passacaglia.” The initial theme, associated with Nature, contrasts with a second, more restless element that emerges in the lower register. However, both elements are essentially the same idea, mirrored and unfolding in different timeframes. This duality reflects the distinct conceptions of «natural time» and «human time,» with human time being more tangible. Over the course of the piece, the two musical elements gradually converge, merging into one and influencing each other in both intervals and rhythm.
