Afro is part of an ongoing piano cycle titled Ethno-études. Each piece in this cycle serves both as a laboratory of virtuosity for the performer and as a study in style for the composer, who freely draws inspiration from the colors, scents, and atmospheres of traditional musics from diverse regions, countries, and continents around the world.
