Spring of the year two thousand and twenty; the blossoming of an epiphany.
For the past three years I’ve been working on the continuation of the Hermès cycle, a work in five distinct scores, which I inaugurated in June 2017 with the final piece Hermès V, composed for all the musicians of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, directed by Matthias Pintscher, to whom the cycle was dedicated.
Hermès V crystallized order from chaos.
Classic, part IV, launches order to lift, unveil and open up the paradoxical dimension of chaos: its calm.
With Hermès IV, the evidence of the simplest, most stable balance emerges this spring in my mind and heart: seven musicians, simply bearers of the purest acoustic elements that from antiquity to the present day have come down to us, embodied in these instruments perfected over centuries of lutherie evolution…
