Descaminos

Descaminos (from the Spanish Descaminar, meaning “to leave the path marked out”), is a piece inspired by the Argentine pampas, “the plain”. It’s also a testament to all the musical “diversions” I took to become a composer, and which I’m constantly trying to integrate into my work, in a spirit of creative freedom and post-modern thinking.
In it, I treat the cello as sometimes lyrical, sometimes virtuoso, using complex polyrhythms and a certain harmonic hedonism. The piece ends in a sound texture created by the harmonics of the strings and the harmonic pipes of the percussion – a texture evoking the wind of a starry night in the Pampa, a vast geographical region of South America covering the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, Pampa, Sante Fe, Cordoba, Uruguay and Rio Grande.
