Who hasn’t experienced a difficult morning? A night that seems so short it’s like a breath, a minute as if thoughts had not stopped…
I. Alarm clock: This practical mechanism is also sadistic. If objects had souls,
it would be perverse, amusing itself by waking us up in the middle of our dreams. This
movement hates these machines!
II. One more minute: oh yes, please, let time suspend its flight: let the pursuit of a dream
may the warmth of a companion keep us waiting for the inevitable moment.
It’s an imploring chorale with sweet and also acid harmonies.
III. Retard: It lives up to its name. Who decided what time I should arrive? The time
that brings us back to the mechanical state.
IV. Félicité: I summon Verlaine and his ancient world, his preserved nature, to dream of a morning that is not for nothing. My freedom will be my choice of time!
