Le Concert is a musical work for a countertenor singer and four instruments: theorbo, harpsichord, baroque violin and bass viol, composed after Le Concert or Les Musiciens, (in Italian Concerto di giovani). This picture by Caravaggio was painted around 1595 at the request of his patron, Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte. …

The sounds of this musical piece, completed in March 2018, are those of finteenth-century Italy, due to the choice of instruments used. They could, as it were, have emerged from this painting as the musicians began to play, using the bass viol, theorbo and harpsichord as a backdrop, like the basso continuo that appears in music history around this time. The musical language, for its part, rejects any idea of pastiche and distances itself from this period, commenting on it with personal means.
