Sarabande

At the request of American cellist Jennifer Kloetzel, this Sarabande was written to echo Johann Sebastian Bach’s Second Suite. From
this suite, I extracted the brief initial motif (with its characteristic trill) of the Sarabande – but in a different key. This motif permeates
my entire piece. Initially enunciated mezza voce in the extreme bass, it then develops in all registers, through increasingly dramatic episodes,
before regaining, at the end of this journey, all its initial gravity and simplicity.
