Siguiriya

This Siguiriya is a piece I wrote especially for Estelle Hiron’s string class, Les archets dansants. It’s a method that links body movement with musical movement. Estelle drew much of her inspiration from the creator of this method, Tina Strinning. So, to get young instrumentalists moving and dancing while playing their instrument, I immediately thought of flamenco, which, with its accents on certain beats, can sincerely bring them a rhythmic rigor and instrumental ease that I know will be difficult to achieve while playing and dancing, while at the same time nourishing them with the extraordinary and profound culture that is flamenco.
