Sonate

The Cello Sonata Op. 28 has never found its creator. Eugène Ysaÿe, unfamiliar with the cello, wrote it for his viola in 1927. It was not until almost 50 years later that Arie van de Moortel, professor of viola at the Brussels Conservatory, transcribed it for this instrument. He performed it in public, but in very private circles. This work was never broadcast, unlike the sonatas for solo violin, played and recorded hundreds of times by the greatest performers.
