Sonneries du Mont-Dauphin

I wrote these four short pieces, Sonneries de Mont-Dauphin, at the request of the Espace Culturel de Chaillol, to be played at four windows of the Arsenal of the Mont-Dauphin fortress (Hautes-Alpes).
Designed by Vauban, Louis XIV’s great military architect, this imposing site also has a certain magic about it, both because of its strategic location in the heart of exceptional natural surroundings and because of its resonant altitude, which carries sounds and harmonies.
I therefore decided to call the first ringing Altitudes: a lively, rhythmic, dry ringing. The second, Appel, is softer, like a full song. Next comes Échos, where I work with the natural harmonics of certain positions on the trombones (including the bass trombone). Finally, Crépitements plays with the tongue-sticking technique and ends the work with powerful, thunderous impacts.
