Souffle de Vie (Variations sans thème)

The distinctive quality of Souffle de Vie lies in its introduction, which is not a theme in itself, and in the six variations that follow. Each variation draws on a melodic flourish, a motif, an interval, or a rhythm taken from the others, but without a predetermined order. This creates a sequence of moments that are intrinsically connected to one another.
From these diverse yet unified moments emerges an infinite variety of writing styles, tempos, and expressions, fully exploring the technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument.
Though the instrument is inherently monophonic, I hope that in certain passages, one can perceive a harmonic character—a quality I hold dear, much like the harmonic writing found in Bach’s Sonatas and Suites.
Collaborating and working with Frédéric Chatoux was an experience of rare artistic kinship. His creative enthusiasm and passion inspired me to explore new technical dimensions of the flute.
