Centimes

Centimes – petites pièces pédagogiques is a cycle of six pieces that is itself part of a larger-scale project entitled Musiques additionnelles. This work attempts to renew the form of the pedagogical piece through poetry and the absurd, by centering the students’ new acquisitions on listening, whether mutual or in relation to an electronic medium.
Here, listening is expressed through a sensitive approach to timbre and synchronicity, without forgetting a certain form of theatricality, with original lessons written and conceived by and with poet Dominique Quélen. They are virtually present in the various electronic parts, recited by Paul-Alexandre Dubois.
Six lessons for six different formations and six different levels structure this first cycle. Each corresponds to a penny and a theme grouped as follows:
1 Centime / Lesson 1 / “Sound” / Music & electronics training class / End of first cycle
2 Centimes / Lesson 2 / “The double” / Cello Ensemble & electronics / First to second cycle
5 Centimes / Lesson 3 / “Le sou” / Ensemble de musique actuelle & électronique / Beginning of second cycle
10 Centimes / Lesson 4 / “The Gesture” / Orchestra by twos & electronics / Second cycle
20 Centimes / Lesson 5 / “Movement” / Trio oboe, horn, piano & electronics / Third cycle
50 Centimes / Lesson 6 / “Harmony” / String quartet & electronics / End of cycle three
Each movement is designed to be performed independently.
