This little flute quartet tries to explore some associations between harmonicity and
duration of the sound, by favoring the paradoxical relationships. For example, the piece
highlights a material that oscillates between noisy sounds over long values and the use of
non-maintained quasi harmonic (as surprising pizzicato multiphonic in flute) sounds.
Cadential quotations of the second movement of the Mozart’s flute quartet were reorchestrated on the same principle, they punctuate the speech in the manner of a transition that will bring the strings in a game without a bow. The coda, consisting of inharmonic sounds on short values, represents the idea of oatmeal as the Petit Robert dictionnary defines it in a polysemic way, a “oat without oat bran”(“bran” is “son” in french, wich could mean “sound” too).
