Conceived as a tribute to the illustrious composer who gave his name to the Grand Prix, this work is constructed as a series of dances from Guadeloupean culture. Gwo-Ka is a musical genre made up of 7 rhythms, each with its own particularity and meaning: Toumblack, Kaladja, Wouulé, Graj’, Padjembel, Menndé, Lewoz all have a precise function, symbolizing joy, sadness, love or work. These rhythms create a dramaturgy throughout the piece.
I also used elements dear to Jean-Louis Florentz, such as modes, a call motif linked to the child, and the Magnificat antiphon. These elements build a “wax and gold” discourse, with several levels of reading: from the primary dance, we also find a relationship between mother and child, in a human and spiritual approach.
The registrations indicated are very general. With the exception of a few detailed stops, all blends and progressions must be adapted to the instrument on which the work is played
