La Rivière au bord de l’eau

This short piece for flute, cello, and accordion explores the sound material offered by this unique combination of instruments, specific to the ensemble 20° dans le noir: two wind instruments (one of which is a bellows instrument!) and one string instrument.
I chose to explore this material in greater depth by weaving points of convergence between the three instruments, using unisons and sound aggregates. This approach allows me to play with the thickness of the textures, creating nuanced reliefs, rich in timbres, dynamic contrasts, and expressive subtleties.
A striking melody, easily memorable and likely to be hummed by the audience after a few bars, structures the work and serves as its guiding thread.
In homage to Sea Change by composer Dave Douglas, the piece evolves in a closed harmonic universe, animated by a continuous sway and oscillating rhythmic flows.
