What if the double bass could also sing?
I wanted to offer my apprentice double bass students (2nd cycle level) a colorful, singing piece. Right from the start, the double bass sings at the top of its range, and the piano responds. Like two protagonists, the instruments build a dialogue that sweeps us along in the same momentum.
The title, L’Enchanteur, was inspired by the famous short film The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, in which Mickey is seen dancing his broomsticks: I remembered it as flamboyantly dreamlike!
Stimulating young students through dreams, while appealing to their imagination, was a major source of motivation in composing this piece.
This pedagogical work is also intended for professional double bassists, curious to discover a repertoire that explores the full range of the instrument’s potential.
repertoire that explores the full range of their instrument.
