HALIMI Inès

Inès Halimi is a composer, singer, pianist and author.
She collaborates with artists from the world of classical music such as Marina Viotti, Rolando Villazón, the Quatuor Ellipsos and Thierry Escaich. With a background in both classical and jazz, she also performs on stage with jazz musicians such as Louise Knobil and Alix Logiaco.
Artistic director of the Compagnie …Sans Oublier…, she creates and produces a number of shows. mixing music, theater, literature, dance and painting.

Biography

Inès Halimi is a multi-talented artist: composer, singer, pianist, author and actress. actress. Artistic director of Compagnie …Sans Oublier…, she creates and produces multidisciplinary shows.
As a composer, her melody Quiero, was premiered at the Opéra de Lausanne in September 2020 by mezzo-soprano, Marina Viotti (named Lyric Artist of the Year, at the Victoires de la Musique 2023). The piece is also recorded on the singer’s album Porque existe otro querer (2023), and enjoys great success with audiences and the music press, including Forum Opera and Ôlyrix. Twice winner of the Académie de composition “Léo Delibes” under the direction of Thierry Escaich, she composed Quatuor pour un inconnu, a piece for saxophone quartet, during the 2020-2021 season. The piece is premiered and performed by the Quatuor Ellipsos in July 2021 at the Festival des Forêts de Compiègne. For the 2021-2022 season, she composes the Sonate Réminiscence for the Messiaen Trio, premiered in July 2022 at the Festival des Forêts. In October 2022, tenor Rolando Villazón commissions her to write a piece based on a sonnet by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz: this melody, Entre tus manos, is premiered worldwide during the singer’s European tour, in venues such as the Tonhalle in Zurich, and the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna (November and December 2022).
In winter 2023, Inès Halimi is awarded a writing residency by the Jan Michalski Foundation (Switzerland) to complete her Prières project, combining musical and literary writing: the world premiere of this project will take place in summer 2025 at the Abbatiale de Romainmôtier (Switzerland), where she will perform – alongside the Quatuor Ellipsos – as singer and artistic director.
In June 2024, Inès Halimi is scheduled at the Festival Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg, for the world premiere of her song cycle, Three songs after poems by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (for tenor voice and piano), commissioned by Rolando Villazón.
To mark the release of the Trio Marilys disc Souveraines in February 2025, soprano Hélène Walter commissions Inès Halimi to write a piece for soprano, oboe and piano, entitled Nous nous sommes assises, based on a poem by Renée Vivien.
Inès Halimi was born in Paris in 1993. Her grandfather, Paul Hadjaje, “alto super-soliste” at the Paris Opera, immersed her in music from an early age. She began playing the piano at the age of four, and at seven began a music-studies course with Michèle Tedeschi at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Boulogne-Billancourt. At the age of fifteen, she began in-depth study of opera singing with Sophie Pondjiclis (mezzo-soprano), and at the same time developed her jazz and improvisation skills with Mila Lumbroso.
On graduating from the Baccalauréat Littéraire-Musique, she was admitted to the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) in Susanne Abbuehl’s class for a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Singing, where she furthered her work on improvisation and composition. Combining the study of jazz and opera singing, she was admitted to the HEMU’s Classical Department for a Master’s degree in Opera Interpretation, in the class of Leontina Vaduva, then Stephan Macleod. At the same time, she follows intensive training in Theatrical Interpretation at the HEMU’s Atelier Lyrique, directed by Marc Mayoraz.
Inès Halimi also holds a Master’s degree in Vocal and Instrumental Pedagogy, which she is pursuing in Frédéric Gindraux’s class. From December 2017, advised and encouraged by composer Isabelle Aboulker, she is deepening her musical composition; accompanied by French composer, Yves Chauris.
