Trois Façons de décrire le Temps

Between art music and traditional music, the mandolin has a rich history, marked by migration and the Mediterranean cultural ensemble.
Its hybrid characteristics, somewhere between lute, guitar and violin (G-D-A-E tuning), make it the instrument of choice for 18th-century
Florentine serenades, as well as for 19th-century Neapolitan songs, whose influence was fundamental to Argentine Tango and Brazilian
Choro…
The writing of this piece was marked by my stay at the Fondation des Treilles (Var). The singular temporality that inhabits this place was
a strong source of inspiration throughout the writing process. The temporality of nature (powerful and present everywhere) contrasts with the
unchanging time of the archaeological ruins on the estate, or in the dialogue between ancient, ethnic and contemporary art.
The title of the piece is a nod to composer Bruno Giner’s Trois façons de décrire le rock.
