Biography

“Lyrical, powerful and colorful”. These are the words with which conductor Alainb Altinoglu describes Benjamin Garzia’s music. This music, which draws its substance from the author’s passion for philosophy and literature, is more than just sound, it is a reflection on existence, its meaning, and the meanings that can be given to it by each individual. It was during his horn studies at the CNSMD in Paris, where he had the opportunity to play with France’s leading orchestras
(Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio- France, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse), Benjamin Garzia also began composing, transcribing and conducting. Through the Laetonium Horn Quartet (of which he is a founding member), his arrangements quickly won unanimous acclaim, and were recorded at the Berlin Philharmonic by members of the Berliner Philarmoniker.

His compositions are also heard in major cultural venues, performed by prestigious ensembles. In 2011, eGo dilEmma (for solo trombone and string orchestra) will be premiered at Basel Cathedral (CH) by the Sinfonieorchester Basel under the direction of Denis Russel Davies. Exostens, for horn, soprano and orchestra, at the CNSMD in Paris, by the conservatory orchestra. In 2012, Lycan, Nocturne for orchestra, at Strasbourg’s Cité de la Musique, by musicians from the SWR Baden-Baden und Freiburg and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, conducted by Vahan Mardirossian. Since then, other works include Om Egapée, for string quartet, Transfigura, for symphony orchestra, in O carna, for brass ensemble, Acrium Ibera, for solo trumpet and orchestral ensemble, Obvigammat for 4 horns and wind orchestra.

In 2011, Benjamin Garzia was appointed conductor of one of the orchestras of the Musique de l’air de Paris.
La Musique de l’Air de Paris, with whom he will expand his repertoire with innovative transcriptions ranging from Stravinsky’s L’oiseau de feu to works by Gabrieli and Mozart. He expanded the repertoire for this type of ensemble by commissioning works from contemporary composers such as Philippe Schoeller and Christian Dachez…
In 2013, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Saint- Louis, with whom he premiered some of his own works.
