POPINEAU François

Composer, arranger, orchestrator, teacher and pianist, François Popineau won prizes for writing, analysis, piano and composition in the classes of Alain Gaussin (a pupil of Messiaen), Isabelle Duha, Cecile Gily/Philippe Manoury and Jacqueline Bourges Maunoury/Florence Pommier. He also studied for a time with Martial Solal, who prefaced his treatises “Harmo-Piano” & “Traité de Micro-harmonie au clavier”. Other preface writers include Giovanni Mirabassi (concert jazz pianist), Baptiste Trotignon (concert jazz pianist), Ariane Jacob (concert pianist & accompaniment teacher), Philippe Boivin (composer).

Biography

Composer, arranger, orchestrator, teacher and jazz pianist, François Popineau divides his time between teaching, performing, composing, harmonic pedagogy, arranging and orchestration + conducting.

 

His many musical activities include teaching jazz piano, jazz harmony and jazz orchestra at conservatories (Levallois & Vitry sur Seine), producing solo, trio and combo CDs (“Piano Songs / live Salle Cortot”, “Extra Céleste” awarded best jazz trio CD release by jazz valley and nominated finalist at the Festival Jazz de la Défense), concerts with his own groups (Trio Popineau, French jazz songs Trio, Levallois Popi jazz band… ), creations/compositions (jazz & classic) for soloists and orchestras (Duo “Luperka” – Aurelienne Brauner).
