Couleurs de Vie

It’s very impressive to write for this new organ at the Maison de la Radio. Some of the stops hardly exist anywhere else, they’re incredible and, in the truest sense of the word, unheard of.

I threw myself wholeheartedly into writing this piece, into the colorful, lively dialogue that animated me throughout the writing process, overcoming the fear I felt when I first encountered this enormous, peculiar and magnificent animal.
The balance between the two instruments was my primary concern, taking advantage of the richness of the sounds, of the organ, without suffocating the viola. It was a major challenge, but the dialogue came about quite naturally, the osmosis, the exciting contrasts, the play of colors, the differences, the correspondences.
Working with Vincent Warnier and Paul Zientara was magical, we spoke the same language from our first meeting with the organ, and I must thank Vincent for knowing how to imagine the registrations I was hearing during the long process of writing this piece. I would like to thank France Musique for giving me the pleasure of being able to tell the story of Couleurs de Vie with these two wonderful musicians.
