Based on a five-note generative cell (D-La-E-Mi-B-Si-B), Mabus unfolds a suspended, mysterious initial character, gradually revealing a darker, more rhythmically marked material that becomes increasingly prominent throughout the piece. I borrowed the title from Nostradamus (Michel de Notre-Dame; 16th-century apothecary, astrologer and physician) who, in a quatrain of his famous predictions, cites the name Mabus, probably in reference to a mysterious, evil figure.
