Bernard Cavanna is one of today’s composers whom I particularly admire. A man of great culture, committed to the transmission of music, his free and particularly personal art has left a deep impression on me, from his Messe to l’Agité du bocal and his two violin concertos.

So, when Jean-Paul Secher and the Ars Nova Ensemble organized a live broadcast entitled a contrario to bring us together, I had the idea of paying him a fitting tribute by composing this Danse de Saint-Bernard.

Beyond the jest and the pleasure of imagining this whimsical man dancing to my sounds, it was the deeply spiritual man that came to mind as I reread the Traité de l’amour de Dieu by St-Bernard de Clairvaux; in particular this sentence: “To seek God is to be sought by him.”
