Mystic Archipel is a suite for cello inspired by imaginary, multi-dimensional conversations: between the soloists to whom the suite is dedicated, and between today’s composer and yesterday’s masters. The work evokes not only Bach’s music for solo cello, but also that of major composers who wrote for the instrument, such as Britten, Shostakovich and Webern. In this way, it demonstrates the need to be connected to the past through multiple
aspects and correspondences.
Archipelagos, made up of an arrangement of islands and islets, open up the representation of unspeakable relationships and exchanges, such as the countless human interconnections from ancient times to the advent of the Internet and today’s means of communication. My music is often born of correlations between the fantastic and the imaginary, the pictorial and the landscape. For this suite, it draws on the heritage of classical and contemporary works, inspiring the purpose of each movement, opening onto journeys from one poetic universe to another, linked by an imaginary and metaphorical dialogue.
