Cansos
40,00 €
In the autumn of 1844, during a long tour of southern France, Franz Liszt gave two recitals in Pau. One of the pieces he performed was Pastorale du Béarn, which he had just composed for the occasion, and dedicated to the Countess Caroline de Saint-Cricq, from Pau, who had been his great childhood love.
Cansos, for violin and orchestra, is largely based on this melody borrowed by Liszt from the traditional Béarn repertoire. Constantly varied and transformed, it mingles freely with other, much older songs, cansos – the name given to troubadour songs in the 12th century. Two songs by Marcabru, writer and musician at the court of Aquitaine, Pax in nomine Domini and Lo vers comens, and Jaufré Rudel’s l’Amour de loin: Lanquan li jorn, appear in the course of the work.
