Biography

After studying classical guitar and organ, Benoît Sitzia began a course of study in music culture and composition. He received several awards in analysis, music history, aesthetics, and composition, and went on to study composition for two years at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
A musician whose imagination is nourished by the links between sound and literary expression, he cultivates an original and multidisciplinary creativity. Committed to an approach based on listening and communication contexts (symbolic, spatial, cultural), he has developed a catalog of works supported by strong intertextual links.
As such, his works are commissioned, created, and performed by artists and ensembles in France and abroad (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Rayuela, Trio Antara, Maîtrise de Radio France, Ensemble Chromosphère, Collectif Fractales, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, UMZE ensemble, ensemble Ars Nova).
His creative work has been supported and recognized by various public and private institutional distinctions and awards, as well as by the regular granting of artistic residencies in France and Europe, such as in 2024 at the Arvo Pärt Center in Estonia.
Active in engineering, construction, and cultural project management, he puts his skills to work for Ars Nova, where he is currently the general and artistic director.
He is also involved in promoting music in France and abroad by participating in the creation, co-organization, and co-programming of several events such as the Impérial Annecy Festival, the Innovasound Festival, and the Royan-Orgues Festival.
Committed to developing a cooperative dynamic for the music industry, he co-founded and chairs the Collège Contemporain (a support structure for composers, performers, ensembles, and musicologists). He also initiated and co-chairs Rézo MUSA, a unique network representing all those involved in the field of heritage and creative music—both written and improvised—in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Convinced of the importance of education, learning, and knowledge transfer among professionals of all generations, Benoît Sitzia oversees the creation of the European Creative Academy for Music & Musicians (Annecy), is actively involved in mentoring activities at the Peter Eötvös Foundation for Contemporary Music (Budapest), and teaches applied music analysis at the Conservatoire de Paris.
